Academic research on Erasmus University is being funded by the Chinese Communist Party. Certain Erasmus researchers have to pledge loyalty to the leadership of the CCP and to the socialist system with Chinese characteristics. If researchers do not adhere to these criteria their funding can be terminated.

The scholarship program by the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) violates academic freedom, academic integrity and the safe space on campus. Scholars, researchers and other staff called to stop this program about the PhD-program May 2022 in an anonymous letter to the board of directors. It has been one year since this letter and nothing has happened.

Erasmus University continues to ignore our calls to protect academic integrity at Erasmus University.

TAKE ACTION: Send a message directly to Ed Brinksma and urge them to immediately stop this Chinese Communist Party funded program at Erasmus University.

Zojuist heb ik te horen gekregen dat academisch onderzoek op de Erasmus Universiteit wordt gefinancierd door de Chinese Communistische Partij. Onderzoekers moeten in hun contract een loyaliteitsverklaring ondertekenen, waaronder volledige steun aan het leiderschap van de CCP en aan het socialistische systeem met Chinese kenmerken. Dit baart mij enorme zorgen.

Deze samenwerking met de CCP zet academische integriteit en vrijheid onder druk. In mei 2022 werd er een anonieme brief geschreven aan jullie, het college van bestuur. Als reactie hierop zouden jullie een checklist maken voor alle internationale samenwerking. Nu is het een jaar verder, maar deze is nergens te bekennen.

Ik hoop dat jullie open staan om in gesprek te gaan met Students for a Free Tibet Rotterdam en een eind te brengen aan de toenemende Chinese invloed op ons campus. U, Ed Brinksma, als voorzitter van het College van Bestuur, steunt een autoritair regime die al decennialang volkeren onderdrukt zoals Tibet, Oost-Turkestan en Zuid-Mongolië.

Houd vast aan de Erasmiaanse waarden. Houd vast aan de academische waarden. Houd vast aan uw humanitaire waarden.
